Language and Culture
Okay, how do I want to handle languages / area knowledge?
- Two skills, standard cost. Still fairly cheap to acquire (1 point for +1) but very expensive to be really good at. Maybe I could offset the cost by giving free points in it over time.
- One skill, standard cost. A bit cheaper. We lump stuff like knowing the language and what folks there do together... might even be more realistic in a primitive world, where you probably can't just pick up a book on "Conversational Tzunichian".
- A single skill, but a narrow one. Your rating is doubled. So one point gets you a +2. Fifteen points gets you a +10. Very cheap to acquire (compared to other skills; PCs tend to hoard their points, though, and may still not think it's worth it). I'd have to come up with rules for identifying "minor" skills, though.
- Feat/Advantage/Edge. Basically, knowing a language would be a binary thing... you'd either know it or not. Area knowledge might well just be a Streetwise roll.
