The Demon Sage: there's stone hall that sensible folks avoid. It's inhabited by some sort of cloaked and cowled demon-sage. He alternates between raving paranoia and overt greed and megalomania. But he knows a lot of things... many things that he shouldn't. He always asks a steep price... either a hideous fee or a dangerous task, and he always knows whether or not the petitioner can afford the fee before they say anything. There's a strange vibration in the place sometimes, like there's something shaking the whole building. It seems to come from the back rooms and the sage is extremely protective of whatever's back there. Some folks speculate that it's the source of his unnatural knowledge, but no one knows for sure... it's hard to burgle someone who knows that you're going to try before you do.
There would probably be some group of enchanters and smiths who make their living by crafting mighty weapons and armor. Well, "mighty" as in, better than the ordinary stuff. I'm not looking for a system where your equipment is more important than your skills. They employ more golems (many of them made out of metal, rather than stone) than anywhere else, using them in the forges.
